After four decades of deepening globalization\, we now see clear signs of reversal – from trade wars and supply chain reshoring to rising economic nationalism and protectionist policies. This “great unwind” is driven by political shifts and public discontent with the status quo\, suggesting that deglobalization is not a mere cyclical wrinkle but a profound structural change in the world economic order. \nUnlike routine business-cycle fluctuations\, the current transition has the hallmarks of a regime shift. The combination of populist politics (e.g. Brexit\, America First\, emerging nationalistic movements worldwide)\, geopolitical rivalry (US-China decoupling\, multipolar tensions) and global shocks (pandemic disruptions\, resource security concerns) is challenging the fundamental assumptions of the previous era. We are entering unfamiliar territory where the old playbook of ever-freer trade\, capital mobility and minimalist government may no longer apply. \nJoin CFAP and Bond Club members as we hear from Alex Preston\, CFA of the Man Group\, for an insightful presentation on the rise of de-globalization and how investors can navigate the coming change. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alex Preston\, CFA\, Head of Advisory Alex Preston is a Managing Director and Head of Advisory at Man Group\, responsible for Portfolio Management Advisory and for the firm’s client research collaboration with Oxford University\, OMI Advisory. He was previously Head of Content at Millennium. Prior to that\, he was Client Investment Strategist at Man Group\, working for the firm from 2013 to 2020. Alex started his career in 2001 working for a credit hedge fund before moving to The Carlyle Group\, where he was Head of Global Trading. He is a prize-winning author and journalist\, writing regularly for The Economist\, Financial Times\, and the Guardian. Alex graduated from the University of Oxford with an MA in English Literature\, and holds a PhD from University College\, London. \nThe presentation will be followed by a reception serving lite bites and refreshments. \nThis is a members-only event.
